This Library, being published material is not subject to the Policy on Access to the IMF Archives. It is for the use of Staff, the IMF Historian and researchers. Items are not for loan - they are for reference use only. Unless for official preservation purposes, neither the collection nor any of its items shall be removed from the Fund’s custody, The only exceptions to this are stated in the IMF Archives' Letter of Agreement with Mr. Jacques J. Polak.
Scope and Content
In 2009 Jacques.J. Polak donated to IMF Archives his library of economics works (books, journals, reprints and other materials) when materials came both from his office which was closing at the IMF, as well as from his home.
Many of the publications are out of print. The Library concentrates on twentieth century economics and national and international monetary and financial systems. Among many authors some that are represented are: Jacques J. Polak; Per Jacobsson, John Maynard Keynes and Jan Tinbergen. Among several institutions whose publications are represented, examples are: the League of Nations; the International Monetary Fund; the Institute for International Economics; Princeton University Press, International Finance Section; and the Group of Thirty. Polak was a member of this private, non-profit, international Group, whose aim is to deepen understanding of international economic issues. In 1981 Polak authored one of the Group of Thirty publications: "Coordination of National Economic Policies".
