  • Scope and Content
    Sous-fonds contains the records maintained in the Immediate Office (or Front Office) of the Middle Eastern Department. Processed in successive chronological tranches, records are arranged, within each tranche, into standard categories including: Administrative Files, Chronological Files, Consultation Files, Consultation Minutes, Country Files, Economic Subject Files, Subject files. Sous-fonds contains also series created by Deputy Directors and Advisors consisting of Country Files, Subject Files and Chronological Files. Tranche 1 (1946-1988) includes material inherited from the Immediate Office of the Latin American, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern Department (1950-1953) as well as documents from the Research Department when area departments part of its responsibilities (1946-1950). Tranche 2 (1988-1992) includes records transferred from the African Department when Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Somalia and Djibouti joined the Department (1992).
