Scope and Content
Sous-fonds consists of records created and maintained by the European Department Immediate Office (or Front Office) since its establishment in 1953. Material includes some records inherited from the earlier European and North American Department (1950-1953) and Research Department (1946-1950). Records are arranged into four categories: Administrative Files, Consultation Files, Country Files, and Subject files. In addition, the sous-fonds contains records maintained by individual Directors: Leslie Alan Whittome (1964-1986) and Massimo Russo (1987-1997); Deputy Directors: Ernest Sturc, Albin Pfeifer, and Manuel Guitian; and Senior Advisor Hans Schmitt. These records consist of sets of Subject Files, Chronological Files, and Working files.
