- IndholdsbeskrivelseSeries consists of files dealing with general aspects of the economic work conducted by the Middle Eastern Department staff as well as world economic issues or particular economic sectors. Until the early 1980's this category of files was maintained in the Immediate Office Subject Files (or General Files). Documents consist mostly of draft papers sent to the Middle Eastern Department (MED) for information, review or contributions. There are also memoranda exchanged with other departments and between the Front Office and MED Divisions, papers prepared in MED and some external correspondence exchanged with member countries. Series is processed in chronological tranches. Within successive tranches, files are arranged alphabetically by subject. Generally, headings reflect the main activities of the Department: contributions to Fund wide reviews, estimates or projections with respect to the MED countries (Quotas, Annual Report on Exchange Arrangements and Exchange Restrictions, Purchases, Treasurer's Department, Use of Fund Resources, International Banking Committee, Financing Needs, International Liquidity, Compensatory Financing Facility, Work Program, World Economic Outlook); comments on policy papers, guidelines or new facilities (Consultation Procedures, Exchange Rate Surveillance, Borrowing, Conditionality, External Debt, Structural Adjustment Facility; and economic notes or studies prepared by MED staff (Oil Exporting Countries, World Economic Outlook (World Oil Situation), Islamic Banking). Tranche 2 files (1989-1992, Boxes 25-41) include data reflecting Fund's strategy to promote growth in heavily indebted countries (Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility (since1987); Compensatory and Contingency Financing Facility - with the introduction of an oil import element (1990-1991) as well as documents concerning Fund's arrears strategy (Treasurer's Department; Use of Fund's Ressources). Tranche includes also files covering the 1990-1991 Gulf Crisis adverse effects on Middle Eastern countries' balance of payment and the response of the Fund (Gulf Crisis) as well as files concerning the Middle Eastern Department's monthly "World Oil Market Developments" (Oil - WOIMD).
