Series consists of incoming correspondence and internal memoranda of Managing Director Per Jacobsson, as well as notes regarding responses to the correspondence, and occasionally copies of outgoing correspondence, containing requests and information connected to issues concerning the IMF. Correspondence is often addressed to the Managing Director from governors or general managers of banks, congressmen and members of the U.S. government, the head of various international companies, chairs of economic groups and committees, and other outside correspondents, or inter-office memoranda to and from the Executive Director, the Deputy Managing Directors, Department heads and other members of staff. The correspondence includes letters asking the Managing Director for copies of reports or speeches, as well as requests for employment with the IMF, requests for the Managing Director to attend meetings, thank-you letters, and letters from former colleagues and friends discussing personal news or common interests, as well as notes recommending an article or publication to the Managing Director, often with the suggested article attached. Correspondence also includes memoranda to the Managing Director about issues concerning the IMF, such as the Euro-Dollar and rates of interest, forecasts of U.S. economic activity, and gold. This correspondence is arranged by last name of correspondent., Series also contains a set of general correspondence, which refers to correspondence sent to the Managing Director from the general public, or those not necessarily connected to IMF business. This group of files contains the original incoming correspondence with a reply from either the Managing Director or his personal assistant. This material is arranged in chronological order, as opposed to last name of correspondent as seen in the above-mentioned correspondence files.
