Article IV consultations, Article XIV consultations, ARTICLE VIII

The country consultation files consist of materials pertaining to obligations that member countries must abide by and the consultations, studies and reports prepared by Fund staff for the purpose of ensuring compliance. Consultations were performed annually, and records were created and arranged by year. The relevant articles are Article IV, Article VIII and Article XIV, the full text of which is available on IMF.org. From 1952 until the early to mid 1960s, consultations were carried out under Article XIV. Records created under Article XIV are divided into three files for each year; a general file which contains memos and reports; a questionnaire file which contains a questionnaire provided by the Fund and answers from member countries; and a minutes of meetings file, which contains minutes of meetings held between Fund staff and member country representatives. From the early to mid 1960 to the late 1970s, consultations were carried out under Article VIII. Records created under Article VIII are divided into two files for each year; a general file which contains a report on the country's economy in the form of a board document; and a minutes of meetings file, which contains minutes of meetings held between Fund staff and member country representatives. From the late 1970s to 2002, consultations were carried out under Article IV. Records created under Article IV include only one file, a report on the country's economy in the form of a board document.
