Scope and Content
Series consists of documents created by Managing Director Jacques de Larosière as a result of his day-to-day work relating to IMF member countries. Documents include comments by the Managing Director in response to reports by the country division; correspondence; internal memoranda; aide-memoires; back-to-office reports; technical assistance missions and reports on membership obligations; information on countries; notes; draft board documents; newspaper clippings; briefing papers; Stand-by negotiations; and, other reports submitted to the Managing Director.
Correspondence is often with country officials and discusses the financial status of the country and includes consultation documents. Correspondence also includes acknowledgements and thank-you notes regarding gifts and social occasions. There are drafts and final copies of internal memoranda on transactions, Use of Fund Resources, comments on documents, policy statements, notes for discussions, and draft papers related to country membership. These drafts include notes to the Managing Director with recommendations from the Deputy Managing Directors.
Topics of interest include the Economic and Social Crisis in Sub-Saharan Africa, the introduction of a retail sales tax in Bhutan, and material related to the debt crisis in Latin America (1982-1985) including debt negotiations for Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. Subjects covered include financing facilities, technical assistance, missions, and Article IV Consultations.
Records are arranged in alphabetical order by country, and reverse chronologically within each file.
