Scope and Content
Series contains records primarily created and maintained by the Secretary's Department Immediate Office (SECAI) Deputy Secretary, one of the executive officers responsible for handling preparations for Annual Meetings of the Board of Governors of the IMF and World Bank. The series covers the planning, preparation and proceedings of Annual Meetings and its Committees, notably the Joint Procedures Committee. Records include: official Annual Meeting documents of the Board of Governors (press releases containing IMF MD’s Statement), printed booklets (1970 onwards), Board documents (from IMF Secretary to Members of the Board, e.g. excerpts of speeches), correspondence, briefings for the chairman, reports, statistical documents (timing and order speeches of Governors, special guests), verbatim report of opening session (beginning in 1970), and occasionally World Bank documents (report on delegates). Records document internal discussions and decisions relating to Annual Meeting proceedings and policies (e.g. customs regarding spoken statements of member countries, discussion of agenda, and observers). Also includes Committee on Rules for the Regular Election of Executive Directors material, documenting the results of the election of IMF Directors and the Board of Executive Directors report to the Board of Governors. Files are arranged in chronological, then alphabetical order. There is some duplication of the material in this series compared to the published Summary of Proceedings, however, certain sections of Summary of Proceedings (e.g. agenda, schedule) were added in later years and not present in the Summary as they are in SECAI Annual Meeting records. This series also contains unique records relating to annual meetings, such as orders of speeches and speech time count, briefings for chairman and correspondence.
