Iraq Country Desk files maintained primarily between 1989 and 1998 – with a personal file of Department Director Paul Chabrier on Iraq (1992-1998). Records consist of correspondence files (correspondence with authorities, Fund internal memoranda, data) and a small set of consultation files going back to 1983 (Article IV consultation discussions, request for the use of Fund resources under the Compensatory Financing Facility). They cover Iraq's growing external debt at the end of the Iran - Iraq War (1988), the impact of the UN economic embargo following the invasion of Kuwait (1990), Iraq’s overdue financial obligations to the Fund, and the absence of consultation with the Fund.
