Sous-fonds consists of records created and maintained by the Western Hemisphere Immediate Office since its establishment in 1953, with some earlier records dating from 1949 when it was a division under its predecessor, the Research Department. The majority of the records are country files which document the activities of the Immediate Office in the area of monitoring the member countries' economic, financial and political developments, conducting missions, and coordinating technical assistance in member countries. Other records of the WHD Immediate Office relate to establishing and maintaining partnerships with international organizations, information on various economic subjects and operational topics, and internal administrative arrangements for projects, lectures, and technical assistance by WHD staff. Records are arranged according to the following series: Administrative Files; Chronological Files; Committee of Twenty Files; Country Files; Economic Subject Files; International Organizations Files; Advisor J. Paul Brand's Files; and, Director E. Walter Robichek Files.
