- Ambito e contenutoSeries consists of carbon copies of Manuel Guitián's outgoing correspondence and internal memoranda covering his positions as Economist and later Deputy Division Chief of the External Finance Division; Division Chief of both the External Finance and Stand-by Programs Divisions; Advisor and later Senior Advisor of the Immediate Office; and lastly Deputy Director of the Immediate Office of the Exchange and Trade Relations Department. The early correspondence consists of draft papers on a variety of topics including inflation on mobilization and allocation of resources, credit policies in financial programs and balance of payments. These drafts usually formed the basis of what would become a Board document. Much of the early correspondence created at the time when Guitián was an Economist and Advisor consists of internal memoranda regarding estimations and analysis of export, monetary functions of countries and exchange systems, trade policies, Article VIII consultations and Stand-by Reviews. As a Senior Advisor, Guitián was concerned with general policy issues of the IMF, in particular those dealing with institutional lending policies and member country access to IMF resources; and matters related to Latin American and Asian countries. Documents created after 1984 reflect Guitián's work as an IMF representative at Paris Club annual meetings and the Development Committee Secretariat. The majority of the documents within the files are carbon copies, however there are also original and copies of incoming correspondence, photocopies of articles and some memoranda created by other individuals within the department. Files within the series are arranged chronologically, but documents within the files are arranged in reverse chronological order.
