- Ambito e contenutoSeries contains general subject files maintained by the African Department Immediate Office regarding economic issues and AFR Department and IMF administration, policies and operations. Based on the number of files on each subject, the most prevalent economic issues are: designation plans and operational budgets; exchange rates; oil facility; Special Drawing Rights; Stand-by Arrangements; and use of Fund resources. Prevalent files on departmental and IMF operations cover: annual meetings; World Bank/IMF collaboration; visitors; weekly forecasts; consultations; and publications by AFR staff. Annual meeting files demonstrate the Department's role in preparing for, participating in and undertaking subsequent activities for the meetings. They are grouped by year with titles such as: Annual Meeting - General; African Caucus; Briefing Papers; Documents; and Representation. Overall, records consist of: correspondence - letters and cables - from external organizations and academic institutions; internal memoranda circulated to heads of departments for review and comments; speeches of the Managing Director circulated for comments; briefing and background notes on country activities prepared for management; guest lists, menus, and cables with general travel arrangements for events hosted by AFR; draft publications by AFR staff as well as publications from external sources, such as IBRD (later the World Bank), circulated within the Department for comments; memoranda with the Department's contribution to interdepartmental papers, Institute courses and IMF publications; meeting minutes; Board Documents; and press releases. Files are arranged in alphabetical order and then chronologically. A tranche of documents from 1970 to2000 has been appended to the end of series and is arranged alphabetically and in chronological order: these documents were maintained by African Department Immediate Office (AFRAI). Files contained in this tranche cover the following topics: credit ceilings, emergency assistance, exchange restrictions, financing facility, fiscal policy, Structural Adjustement Facility (SAF), Special Program of Assitance (SAP), staff-monitored programs, Stand-by Arrangements, Systemic Transformation Facility and transparency.
