[nb-NO]Scope and Content[nb-NO]
Series contains memoranda prepared by staff of the Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern Department (FML) on issues relating to the member countries for which it was responsible. The memoranda have either FML or FMLX numbers. FMLX memoranda were created to indicate the confidential nature of the papers and had a more restricted circulation. The numbers are sequential and memoranda are arranged in chronological order. Memoranda were often produced by FML in consultation with other IMF departments, such as the Legal Department and the Exchange Restrictions Department. Some of the memoranda represent the first or preliminary surveys of a new member's economy. Other topics of note include: intraregional trade in the Far East; the impact of foreign investments on the balance of payment positions of Far Eastern countries; the economic and financial arrangements between the Netherlands and Indonesia for the transfer of sovereignty; the effect of investment programs on foreign exchange reserves; mobilization of rural savings with special reference to the Far East; and, the inflation and mobilization of domestic capital.
