- Bereik en inhoudSeries consists of correspondence files created by Charles L. Merwin when he was an economist and Assistant Division Chief in the Research Department’s Balance of Payments Division (RESBP) from 1946-1952. They contain letters and memoranda exchanged between Merwin and other departmental staff such as division chiefs Walter Gardner and J.J. Polak, and Director E.M. Bernstein, as well as with other IMF staff, academics at various universities, member authorities, and other international organizations such as the United Nations in general, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLA), the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), and the Organization for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC). Topics within the series include: analysis and workflow of Balance of Payments approaches within the Division; discussions taken to assemble and analyze data on raw material markets for balance of payments purposes; comments on staff studies and papers; trade, exchange rates, income and wealth, staffing, statistics, and the balance of payments questionnaire. There is also one file with a draft memorandum on initial par values. The memorandum appears to have been written by Rena Zafiriou, an economist in RESBP at the time. Series is arranged roughly in chronological order.
