Series consists of files of an administrative nature which were maintained by Irving S. Friedman during his term as Director of the Exchange Restrictions Department (1952-1964). Files are arranged alphabetically by subject and consist of inter-departmental correspondence, internal memoranda and IMF documents. These include Friedman's notes for reply to staff regarding Annual Meetings and comments on the Managing Director's speeches; updates and reports on internal matters submitted to Friedman by his immediate office staff while he was on mission; and Friedman's working papers for missions. The series also consists of a log and confidential file maintained by Friedman which document the day-to-day function of ERD and his drafts regarding the role and function of the policy review group during the initial establishment of the Exchange Restrictions Department.
