Series consists of files and records of Western Hemisphere Department divisions’ work of monitoring and assessing economic, financial, and related political developments of division countries. The records also reflect division collaboration with other IMF departments. Subject Files typically cover or refer to all of the countries in the division, such as, for example, regional organization files. Notable topics in this series include: the Baker Initiative; exchange arrangements, practices and restrictions; external debt; the Oil Facility, and the World Economic Outlook. Some divisions in the Department kept separate series for International and Regional Organizations and kept what others called Subject files in an Administrative or General files series. They have all been incorporated into this series. The series has the following kinds of records: memoranda to files and other internal memoranda; reports; Board discussion; correspondence; cables; tables; and, notes. Files are arranged alphabetically and then chronologically. Where different divisions had files on the same subject, the corresponding division code has been added to the file titles.
