Форма и содержание
Processed in succesive chronological tranches, fonds consists of records of the Middle Eastern Department (MED) and its successor the Middle East and Asia Department (MCD). Created and/or maintained by the department's Immediate Office and its area divisions, the records primarily document the functions of MED/MCD in the areas of: monitoring the economic, financial and political developments of its member countries; negotiating the use of Fund resources; conducting missions and participating in meetings; providing technical assistance to countries; and, collaborating with other international organizations. First tranche (1946-1988) includes material inherited from the Research Department and its Middle Eastern Division (1946-1950) and from MED's predecessor the Latin American, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern Department and its Middle Eastern Division (1950-1953). These pre-1953 records are complemented by files in the Central Files Collection. Second tranche (1989-2005, predominant 1989-1992) includes material transferred from the African Department when Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Somalia and Djibouti joined the Middle Eastern Department (1992) and from the European II Department when it was dissolved and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan joined MED to become MCD (2003).
