- Scope and ContentSeries consists of the subject files maintained by Subimal Mookerjee in his position as Senior Advisor of the Exchange and Trade Relations Department. As reflected in the records, Mookerjee represented the IMF on several international organizations including the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) and United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East (ECAFE) - called the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) after 1974. A substantial amount of the files within this series document a study undertaken by the IMF at the request of ECAFE. The study focused on the existing arrangements for settling international transactions amongst ECAFE countries. ETR in conjunction with the Asian and Legal Departments conducted a survey and held a series of meetings with ECAFE countries to discuss the establishment of a regional payments arrangement. Mookerjee also met with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). His work with the organization involved a proposal by UNCTAD for the establishment of a new fund facility. UNCTAD criticized the approach taken by the Committee of Twenty in proposing a restructuring of the international monetary system on the grounds that it pays inadequate attention to the special problems of less developed countries. Files within this series are arranged chronologically by subject.
