- Scope and ContentSeries consists of photographs authored by IMF photographers documenting the construction of IMF headquarters buildings as well as structures built at the Bretton Woods Recreation Center in Germantown, MD, from the 1940s through 1997. Organized by IMF photographers as part of their daily workflow, photographs have been kept in their original order and are arranged in two groups, (1) those documenting headquarters buildings and (2) those of the Bretton Woods Recreation Center (BWRC). Descriptions are available at the subseries level, one for each year of photographs documenting IMF Headquarters and one documenting construction and social events at the Bretton Woods Recreation Center., Photographs include shots documenting various phases of development (pre-demolition, demolition, construction, maintenance), technical photographs of blueprints and artists' renderings, and official events featuring management and senior-level staff commemorating milestones and conducting site visits. Photographs in both groups are arranged chronologically by year and date and include the following buildings: 1818 H Street used by IMF staff in the 1940s and 1950s; headquarters on north-west corner of 19th and H Streets completed in 1958; Annex, or "Addition," on the SW corner of 19th and G Streets completed in 1966; Phase I on southern portion of 19th, G, and 20th Streets completed in 1973; Phase II on the north-west corner of 20th and H Streets completed in 1983; Phase III on the north-east corner of 19th and H Streets completed in 1998; and structures built at the Bretton Woods Recreation Center in Germantown, MD constructed between 1966 and 1983., For preservation reasons, photographs (prints, negatives, contact sheets, and slides) are housed in 13 boxes according to format and size as follows: Boxes 1-2: 4x5 inch negatives; Boxes 3-10: 35mm negatives, 120 film, 35mm slides; and Boxes 11-13: contact sheets, prints (8x10 inches or smaller), and textual records.
