Scope and Content
Sous-fonds consists of records created by the African Department (AFR) area divisions and their desk economists. The organization of the divisions changed over time in order to balance the work demands that came with new members joining the IMF or in order to provide more focused regional surveillance. In other words, country desks were transferred to different divisions over time; however, the records generated by the country desks remained more or less consistent despite these organizational changes. The sous-fonds is arranged into three series: Division Files, Mission Files and Country Desk Files. Division Files are records generated by division chiefs. They include records that cover or refer to all of the countries in the division, such as annual meeting or regional organization files. The Mission Files series includes files documenting IMF staff visits to each country. Country Desk Files reflect the work of desk economists as they monitored and assessed developments in the desk country.
