Scope and Content

Key activities reflected in the records include the organization and conducting of training courses and seminars (mostly at headquarters, and some abroad), providing lecturing assistance to other training institutes and organizations, coordination of Institute divisions (after the four language divisions were established in 1974), overseeing special visitors to headquarters such as country officials, students and scholars, collaborating with other IMF departments in the delivery of lectures or seminars or in commenting on briefing papers and initiatives, and also matters of general administration relating to internal policies, staff travel, course participant subsidies, and management of the Concordia Apartments which houses Institute participants., Series contains incoming and outgoing letters, internal memoranda, facsimiles and cables, reports, copies of background material including IMF reports and papers and also external papers relevant to the subject of the files, occasionally opening remarks to courses and seminars, some historical documentation and notes, and two photographs; one of the Institute's "Balance of Payments" Spanish class of 1987 and the other of a seminar group with former Director Gérard Teyssier. Subjects of notable interest include the 1989 Committee for the Review of the IMF Institute, Working Group on Building Econometric Models, course summaries, and other material suh as lists of contributions of other IMF departments to IMF Institute courses. The series documents the early development and thought processes behind the establishment of certain Institute courses and seminars including the French and Arabic language arrangement.
