- Scope and ContentSeries contains records created and maintained by the Executive Board Proceedings Division responsible for handling IMF membership applications and correspondence. The Division also provided the secretary for the Committee on Membership. Records include originals and copies of: incoming and outgoing letters, cables, facsimiles, hard copies of e-mails; and memoranda between IMF and government officials and/or representatives; memoranda-to-file; minutes of membership mission meetings and Committe on Membership meetings; copies of Board documents and press releases; occasionally briefings for the chairman prepared for the meetings; reports on membership; news clippings; and official membership documentation such as certificates; decrees, letter of transmittal and full power, memorandum of law. Some drafts were retained with the final versions. Several files also include photographs of country representatives and IMF officials at the signing of the Articles of Agreement ceremony. Records in the series document the process by which a country becomes a member of IMF, from the time of the initial request for membership and discussion of legislation issues, to the adopting of resolutions by the Executive Boards of IMF and World Bank, followed by the resolutions placed on the agenda for Annual Meetings to be voted on by the Board of Governors. The last step of the process is the signing of the Articles of Agreement which is a ceremony depicted in the photographs belonging to this series. Documents were removed from their original binders and re-housed in acid-free folders according to original order. Arranged alphabetically by country then reverse chronological order within the files.
